Comment:

 A much earlier ticket was the result of me trying to connect to a WIRED
 network with a static address.  I was able to enter commands at the XO
 which set up the static address - but then the Network Manager came along
 and wiped out my commands - hence my earlier ticket complaining that it
 was not possible to stay connected to a wired network that uses static
 addressing.
