The Record activity we shipped in 8.1 did not work in 8.2 (live video
froze, most recording functionality was broken). It broke due to an update
to the gstreamer versions in the OS. A gstreamer developer commented that
it is a surprise that Record ever worked at all - the pipelines used
 appear to be problematic.

I cleaned up Record and released this as versions 55 and 56. This included
some cleanup, bug fixes, and reworked pipelines. Record was working at
this point with the new gstreamer.

However, it was not working perfectly, we were left with some blocking
bugs (#7452, #7609, #7887). We were not able to fix these in timely
fashion, so we reverted to the 8.1 gstreamer versions in our 8.2 release.
I then released Record-57 which reverts all of the pipeline rework that I
did (making it very similar to Record-54). This at least gets us a working
 Record again.

Being stuck on these old versions is a major pain. We need to fix this for
9.1 - we need to solve those bugs and move to my cleaned up record version
 (or some further cleaned-up version).

I cried out to gstreamer developers and fortunately Josep Torra has
expressed interest in helping us out here. He has experience with
gstreamer internals. We are working on getting him an XO through the
 developer program.
