 I don't have my XO with me ATM but I'm thinking that since the device is
 registered via the input layer, there has to be some way to already get
 the lid state w/o needing an XO-specific export of the GPIO status.
 Looking at the input code, it looks like you should find something in
 /proc/input that will give you the current status. I'll test when I get
 back to my XO later today or tommorrow.
