 I'm afraid I don't understand Frances's description.  It seems like
 Frances may be describing an attempted collaboration between different
 versions of Distance, in which case I can only say that I have made no
 attempt to maintain network layer compatibility between different versions
 of Distance.

 I certainly intend to ensure that Distance works in 8.2, and I will do any
 testing or modification required to achieve this.
