 there are, however, large deployments (G1G1, but also others) that do have
 relatively available external power.  even powering the XO from a vehicle
 accessory socket provides plentiful power.  one could imagine a setting
 which allowed disabling some of the more intrusive power savings features
 in the externally-powered case.
