 When diagnosing #8834 we found that no errors of any sort were logged when
 the shell could not launch the executable specified in activity.info. This
 is the non-rainbow launch code path used when security is disabled, also
 happens in jhbuild.

 To test, change the exec line in some activity.info file to a non-existent
 program. An error should be logged when trying to launch the activity.
