We need a compressed fs that can handle

  - read/write
  - hardlinks
  - interoperates well with rsync's techniques
  - ACLs

... this could be tricky as the state of FSs in linux seems to be that we
have lots of high-perf FSs but no compressed read/write FSs. Some FUSE
 candidates do exist however.

 Rationale:

The XOs have a compressed fs - which means we are at a serious
disadvantage when we backup their storage. XOs can store very large chunks
of highly compressible content (text, html, cat /dev/zero) and blow their
 backup quota with it.

This would mean that our backup quotas have to change to beign measured in
 _compressed_ footprint as well.
