 I think there are two different symptoms covered by #8834.  [They may have
 a common cause.]

 ((1)) Certain Activites (such as X) do not start when /etc/olpc-security
 is absent.  [For me, when /etc/olpc-security is present, the X activity
 starts ok in both 2515 and 767.]

 ((2)) When certain Activities do not start with security disabled, what is
 left in the logs subdirectory is a zero-length logfile for that Activity.
