Comment:
Actually, this interaction was discussed in detail at some point in the
past, and I actually think it might be the right way to go. I too find
myself frustrated by having to toggle it back off. Rarely do I need
repeated access to it such that I'd prefer it to remain on screen.
The mode of interaction would be (as best I can describe without a
diagram):
1. Press the key to reveal the Frame
2. Wait for the cursor to enter the Frame
3. Once cursor enters, dismiss the Frame on mouse events, as usual
4. If the Frame key is pressed again before the cursor enters, hide the
Frame
In other words, the key is just an invocation method. It can be used to
toggle it back off, but only if the cursor is never used to interact with
it. I think that the use case for invoking the Frame for a single action
will be much greater than invoking it for permanence.
Another nice addition to this idea would be to make it so that a long
press of the key would show the Frame while the key is pressed, and then
hide it again on release, allowing one to glance at the battery level,
participants list, or other data without needing to dismiss it again.
Marco, I know you hate the Frame invocation business, but how hard would
this be to do?
