Comment(by mikus):

 Tried CLI 'sugar-control-panel' again with Joyride 2523, after having set
 update_groups to http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Activities/All.  This was on a
 G1G1 XO-1 system having a hard disk swap partition - so that "excessive
 memory use" did not result in the command (or terminal) disappearing.

 I have a wired connection -- it takes close to an hour for '-g
 available_updates' to run -- so I was not attending to observe which
 process had the "excessive memory use". 'df' shows my "virtual disk"
 having some 400 MB free - so I think it was RAM that ran out (after the
 command completed, ps_mem shows some 120 MB of RAM as used when not doing
 something).

 --------

 By the way, the default 'update_groups' as set up by recent Joyrides is
 mis-spelled.
