 I've got an instance of Read that is blocked in a call to recv() (#7017)
 and I can't stop it from the GUI provided by update.1-704. (It made a
 blocking call without setting a timer and thus it's not going to wake up
 to process GTK or D-Bus events until it returns from that call.)
