 I'll interject that the moment we add a path for userspace to send
 commands to the EC we might as well make it generic since the path crosses
 the security barrier.

 I've wanted a generic userspace EC command path for a while but until now
 there's never been a non-debugging need.  I suggest we make the EC a
 platform specific device for olpc and give it the ability to issue
 commands.  Just like we do for dcon.
