 chm, our version of suspend leaves the screen on.

 Scott:  it might be suspend, but olpc-update should have inhibited it, and
 the console should have shown the "Suspending console.." spam etc.  Not
 sure what's going on here.  It might also have been the framebuffer
 screensaver kicking in on idle, which is known to make random characters
 disappear rather than the whole screen sometimes.
