 Only problem is, I can't do anything about it really ...

 GTK+ fills the entry with the text background. This means that in the
 engine I need to fill it back to the "correct" background color. In the
 theme I have used the convention that the base[INSENSITIVE] and
 bg[INSENSITIVE] colors are always set to the correct background color.

 This means, that if you call .modify_* to set base[INSENSITIVE] and
 bg[INSENSITIVE] to be the background color of the canvas, everything will
 look correct. (Yeah, that only works if the canvas has a solid background
 ...)
