 Eben: This feature should go into the new Sugar design, before it's all
 frozen and implemented.  This feature has exactly zero dependence on any
 "groups" feature, and will be trivial to implement apart from pure UI.

 You should also consider the question of pervasive per-activity voice chat
 ("push to talk").
