 We're seeing a crash in terminal on an MP machine running 656 where the
 mp.create_async operation on line 215 is failing as the mp (mount point)
 is a None.  Should guard against that situation and gracefully degrade.

 There is a SanDisk USB key in the usb port.  The key has worked before on
 the machine.  The machine was able to read the key on 656 previously.

 Anyway, guarding against the condition is necessary.
