 Updating the machine to accomodate this tool turns out to be non-trivial.
 There is apparently no apt-get package to install it. Further, to make it
 compatible with php requires a tool called phpize. this is available in
 the debian package php5-dev. However, many of the dependencies for this
 package are either not installed on dev or are installed in a nonstandard
 way. I'd like to do apt-get update but concerned that this might have a
 knock-on effect and possibly disable things which are now working.
