Comment(by gdesmott):

 The backoff timeout is reseted (to 5 seconds) when the IP is changed. So,
 if Gabble connection failed, it will wait 5 seconds, then 10 seconds, 20
 seconds... before the next attempt.

 Maybe that's enough (I guess that's depend on the length of each
 connection attempt).
