Comment:
we started to discuss the design of the control panel yesterday in the
sugar-meeting, here the summary:
- mockup: https://dev.laptop.org/attachment/ticket/6435/settings.png
- It is organized into pages, where each tab corresponds to one page, each
page is broken into sections.
- offer both "cancel" and "confirm" buttons, so that you can undo any
settings changes you made when leaving, "esc" will dismiss the alert
- home XO will have an option "About my XO" to reveal the panel
- make it modal to the place it has been invoked (here home view) because
otherwise you would be blocked from using other activities (for example a
web page that has the instructions for the setting
) when using the control panel.
Questions:
Compared to the OSX panel
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:System_Preferences.png you do not see
all the available options when you open the panel, only the options for
one section (e.g. Network). The OSX way is nice when you are not sure yet
that the radio on/off option is placed in the Network section for example.
Eben can you provide a detailed mockup that illustrates how a subsection
of a page will look like? I guess white font when you use the black
background color. Do we get icons as well for each subsection (e.g. Radio,
Jabber server)?
The menu item in should probably be called "Control Panel" since "About my
XO" is a section within the panel.
