 ejabberd is run within an erlang runtime environment.  A small
 application, the erlang port mapper daemon, must also be running.  This
 applications listens on port 4369 for other erlang nodes to establish a
 connection.

 ejabberctl uses this port to talk to ejabberd, so access to this port from
 localhost should not be blocked.   We don't currently federate ejabberd
 servers together, so we have no reason to open it for access from the
 network.
