Well, I did have a go at this myself a little while back. Most notably, I
removed the "and" (replaced with a comma to save space), and also adjusted
the code so that it always displays no more than the two highest order
time units. These were both done in an attempt to minimize the length of
the string.
I think the best thing to do, at this point, is add palettes (primary
only) to the time spans, which reveal the full relative date string in the
primary text, and the absolute date in the secondary text. I think this
is the most scalable (I18N), and the most useful. If we wanted, we could
later add an option to the menu to toggle between relative and absolute
dates in the Journal. It's a really logical place to do so.
I'm only putting this in 8.2.0 with the hope that I get the chance to do
it myself...
