Comment(by erikg):

 A mild aside from #olpc-devel:

 17:39 < smithbone> erikg: The per packet sample window of the pad appears
 to be 24
 ms.[[BR]]
 17:40 < smithbone> So when the finger is swiped quickly you only get 3 or
 so packe
 ts resulting in a very large delta of coordinates.

 (smithbone is Richard Smith / rsmith).

 We discussed the issue for some time. We have independently observed that
 the "jumpy mouse" issue can be roughly recreated by setting a too-high
 acceleration using xset m. Such is the situation in olpc3, and also
 (theoretically) in environmental conditions which increase the sensitivity
 of the touchpad to user fingers. We agreed that we need to examine the
 touchpad driver to understand how it translates the absolute coordinates
 provided by the touchpad sensor into relative coordinates used by X. It
 is possible that a solution to the jumpy mouse problem could be encoded in
 this driver at this translation layer.
