 Did your comment confirm mine, or counter it?  Are you referring to the
 MenuItems as Buttons?  Finally, could you describe specifically what's
 wrong with the padding as it is?

 (I ask because, at first glance, the gray selection bar of the menu items
 appears to look correct, extending the full width of the palette, at
 present.)

 Are there hidden implications of the current layout that break other
 things?
