 I had several camera problems on B2´s here.

 Most of them would hang on a black screen on opening the Camera activity.

 I found out that on some XO´s the
 /home/olpc/Journal/camera/camera_index.xml was unclosed.

 It usually ends with an unclosed tag.
 The solution I found was to remove the last tag (or close it properly, to
 preserve the corresponding photo) and end the file with the </album> tag.

 With this the camera started normally once again
