 So what actually happens, does a new /etc/localtime get copied to from the
 files in /usr/share/zoneinfo?

 So is Europe/London now copying "GB" rather than "GMT" across?

 I fixed it (before I found this) by

 ln -fs /usr/share/zoneinfo/GB   /etc/localtime
