Comment:

 No, this is not an olpc-update problem.  This is a long-standard kernel
 bug.

 Switching from vt1 to vt2 to vt1 also fixes the problem (more reliably
 than switching from X).

 Reassigning to dilinger, as I suspect this is a dup & he'll know which
 trac bug has more "real" info.
