 This is with joyride-2000.

 The text box at the top of the journal, containing a magnifying
 glass icon, appears to be the way that one would search. (I'm guessing,
 yet again, because no help text is provided)

 In any case, I can't type into that text box.

 I have a vertical bar cursor (carat) there. Clicking at the text box makes
 it blink, at least for a while. Keyboard pounding does nothing.
