Comment(by khaled):

 The cursor starting from the left when you type Arabic is an AbiWord
 issue, unlike GtkTextView (and KWord) it doesn't align to the right when
 the paragraph starts with strong RTL character. Though this might be
 acceptable for word processors (as one can simply override it) it might be
 confusing especially for younger kids.

 AbiWord has 'DefaultDirectionRtl="1"' in /usr/share/abiword-2.6/system
 .profile-ar, which could partially solve this, but it doesn't seem to have
 any effect.

 But AbiWord has more serious problems than this, which makes it in
 adequate for Arabic, yet.
