Thanks for testing and reporting so thoroughly!

> Setup:
>
> Chat-43 and joyride-2228 on an XO, and a Mac as a 2nd platform running
iChat over Bonjour/zero-conf. Both connected to an AP, with the XOs jabber
server setting set to something un-resolvable (so salute is used).
>
> Observations:
>
> 1) XO does not display the Mac in neighborhood (Mac running bonjour
iChat used to show up as an XO icon in earlier releases). Not a Chat-43
bug but just mention for completeness.
This was disabled in Presence Service during work on a previous
reliability issue (#6142). Ticket #7581 tracks restoring it.
> 2) XO user name shows up on the Mac as an available Bonjour buddy
>
> 3) Initiating a text chat and sending a first message from the Mac
correctly triggers the XO chat notification, Chat can be started and
displays the first message
>
> 4) Additional messages can now be sent from the Mac and correctly appear
in the XO Chat window.
So far so good.
> 5) Typing replies in XO Chat do not show up back on the Mac
(initially...)
>
> 6) On closing the Mac iChat chat window, a new chat session will open
with the missing replies from the XO
>
> 7) Jump back to step 5 (Mac can send to XO, but XO messages only show up
if you close the current session on the Mac)
This is strange, I will test this. It might be a salut issue. Since the
other issues in your list have tickets, this is the issue represented by
this ticket.
> Once you close Chat on the XO, it is no longer possible to trigger the
Chat notification by sending text from the Mac iChat. Restarting Sugar
allows it to work again (once).
This is known: #7633, which will be fixed in the next Chat release.
> No errors noted in the log but I've attached a session just incase (I
note that only the XO typed text is logged so you can only see half the
conversation, perhaps Chat could log received messages as well?).
Good idea: I'll add that in a separate ticket.
