 Rephrasing the last paragraph:

 Consider a morph that is *not* a direct submorph of the world: the method
 "morphicLayerNumber" ignores the possibility that the such a morph may
 itself have the property #morphicLayerNumber and instead reads the
 property from the parent. The result is that such morphs cannot be
 correctly positioned in their parent according to their *own* layer
 number.
