 There are

 lots of glitches] in the experience of going from Browse to Read in order
 to view PDFs, including: each time you browse another copy is added to the
 journal (bug #6729); and crashes if you zoom in too much (bug #7090).

 I think these issues merit avoiding use of PDF for the maps in OLPC
 Library > images > world maps (in /usr/share/activities/worldfactbook-
 maps/).  SVG might be a workable alternative.  The originals at
 https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-
 factbook/docs/refmaps.html don't seem to be available as SVG but there are
 PDF to SVG converters, and other maps in SVG format.
