Comment(by gnu):

 I saw this happen in os2181 with a USB stick, but I don't remember whether
 I was in the console or not at the time. When I plugged in another one at
 the Journal, it worked OK (except the Journal still has bugs around
 removable media, e.g. it throws away the filename extensions, #5838).

 I was able to reproduce this with an SD card (it doesn't mount, even
 though I'm sitting in the Journal screen). I switched to a terminal, and
 the kernel messages definitely show that the kernel sees it. But when I
 went to "Attaching Sugar Logs to Tickets" it wanted me to restart, and I
 got hung up in two other bugs (#7350 and #6086). I may try again after
 power-cycling the damn thing.

 Please fix the PolicyKit crap so that when you plug in a device (either
 USB or SD), it gets mounted no matter what screen you happen to be looking
 at!
