 Power on the XO in a dark room.

 Press (F9/lightdown) 5-6 times

 Not only does the backlight not go off, at that low mode (closer to off
 than sugar allows) the backlight starts to flicker, and on one XO the
 backlight completely spazzed for a while, not working at all.
