Comment(by dsd):

 This is because snd_pcm_writei() returns a value indicating that less than
 the number of requested frames were written.

 When putting this into a loop where it loops until all frames are written,
 this bug goes away.
 However performance is quite visibly worse than update1: there are various
 'pops' and the console messages show lots of buffer underruns.
