 something is funky with the above trace. It shows zero time elapsing
 between the all 3 ec commands and the timeout which is highly unlikely.

 {{{

 > [ 1343.091325] olpc-ec:  running cmd 0x1c
 > [ 1343.094392] olpc-ec:  received 0xff
 > [ 1343.094392] olpc-ec:  running cmd 0x1b
 > [ 1343.094392] olpc-ec:  sending cmd arg 0xbb
 > [ 1343.094392] olpc-ec: timeout waiting for EC to quiesce!
 > [ 1343.094392] olpc-ec:  running cmd 0x84
 > [ 1343.094392] olpc-ec:  received 0x20

 }}}

 Ditto here. Yet it claims to have received data.

 If we can reproduce this on a somewhat reliable basis then I need to dup
 it on a machine that has an EC serial port loaded so I can see what gong
 on in the EC.

 Also there an adjustable knob for the EC timeout you can try increasing
 that and see if the timeout goes away.
