What type of profiling data are you looking for? Both LTTng and SystemTap
will provide data down to the kernel function level. Our 8.2 kernel
already has the proper config options for SystemTap to be used on top of
it.
Sysprof looks interesting and non-intrusive from a kernel POV; however, to
profile X, it looks like we may have to rebuild our own X. I can test
compiling the module to see if it builds against our kernel, but given the
way the sources are layed out, I'd prefer the module come in as part of a
sysprof RPM package. One other issue with sysprof AFAICT is that it is
designed to be run on the system it is profiling with the sysprof GUI
running on it as opposed to other tools that allow data collection and
data analysis to happen on separately.
