Comment:

 After investigating this issue, I find that it's not as easy as I'd hoped.
 Hippo uses Pango on a Cairo surface (no GTK widget) to render text, and so
 the GTK Widget tooltip methods don't apply.  Additionally, while Hippo has
 internal support for displaying tooltips, they are shown only when the
 text is ellipsized, and cannot be explicitly set.

 Perhaps we'd be better served with a way to attach palettes to these
 (HippoCanvasText) and other Hippo objects which don't wrap GTK widgets.
 Marco, any thoughts on how to go about this?
