Comment:

 Looks good to me, the step constant is something about the view, but as
 you said, different mechanisms use it, so having it only in hwmanager
 makes sense.

 Regarding the "smoothness" of the controls, that's a question for Eben. If
 he doesn't get to you before you push this patch, he can enter a ticket
 later.
