 You're in a school where the coverage isn't 100% (perhaps because there
 are 500 laptops multicasting crap all the time so your dhcp requests don't
 get through; perhaps just because it's wireless). You want to know if
 you've actually managed to connect to the server and the internet, or if
 you're on a 'simple mesh'.

 It transpires that this information _is_ available in the UI, by hovering
 over the circle in the screen you get after pressing F3. But it should be
 shown in the network view too.
