Comment:

 Lack of feedback is a terrible thing, and there are a lot of places where
 we need to get on top of this.  I suggest using a non-modal alert with a
 timeout for registration confirmation until we have time to give this
 further thought.  While not optimal (as it isn't immediately evident when
 "Register" is selected), I might also suggest changing the text of the
 "Register" option in the palette to "Registering..." or "Cancel
 Registration" instead.
