#6130: Open Firmware should print the UUID along with the serial number
---------------------------------+------------------------------------------
Reporter: gnu | Owner: wmb at firmworks.com
     Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: normal | Milestone: Never Assigned
Component: ofw - open firmware | Version: OFW development version
 Keywords: | Verified: 0

The UUID is needed to generate a devloper key. Currently, if the machine
is not bootable, a special signed Forth script has to be obtained and run
from USB to collect the UUID. If OFW would print
it in its startup banner, this trouble would be avoided.

Secure machines can be teased into printing their banner by holding the
"Check" key. Now if only the banner included all the info needed to get
the key to unlock the machine!

I don't know of any reason to "keep the UUID secret from the user"; it's a
randomly generated number that's unique to each laptop.
