If I want to do collaborative work on a file but don't have real-time
connection, the journal should keep track of the file's latest status for
 me.

Step 1: AA shares a file
In the 'file' view (not list) of the journal, there should be a button to
share, similar to the share activity button. I should be able to share
with my group or with a specific user by name.

A file that is left over from a collaborative editing session should be
shared automatically, and should skip this step.

 Step 2: BB notices
There should be another, identical toolbar in the list view called 'shared
files'. It should only be present when there's a server connection. By
choosing that toolbar I should see only the files that I have shared with
others and that others have shared with me.

Step 3: BB edits and saves the file, now AA notices.
When A opens the journal, it should check with the server to see if anyone
has edited their shared files. This should be visible, not as a new
journal event (intrusive) but as a notice in the journal event that was
originally shared by A. Some interface should allow resuming the file from
 B's version.

It should also be visible, of course, as a new event in the 'shared files'
 toolbar view.

 Step 4: Stop sharing
Either side should be able to sever the sharing link at will, keeping
local copies and removing the file from the 'shared' view.

There are some minor issues to work out with multi-way sharing, but I
think the simplest right answer is obvious. Except: it would be nice to
have a way to either share a single copy with a large group, or share
separate copies with different individuals (think: passing out a
 questionaire for completion and return).

This pretty much depends on resolving 6007 first.
