 FYI,
 Procedure: (as root)
  $ mc /home/olpc /home/olpc-old
  $ reboot

 My line of reasoning, if an update checks for /home/olpc/.olpc-configured
 and it's missing.
 Why not just do a simple 'mkdir -p /home/olpc; chmod -R /home/olpc; touch
 /home/olpc/.olpc-configure' to assure it is created?

 I've done some testing, and no files inside of the directory need to be
 created for a successful boot.. just the directory.

 *shrug*  Just food for thought, in case someone calls with a similar
 problems.
