 With the wonderful help of m_stone, I drilled down deep enough into the
 bowels of the datastore to find a way to access the datastore without
 needing Sugar, D-Bus, or anything other than the libraries installed on
 the XO.  I am attaching a script that uses this method; it's also much
 shorter than the original one, for ease of review.
