Comment:

 I'd prefer to use GObject properties for widgets, but we are not
 supporting them in the constructor for Palette/MenuItem at the moment. We
 can do that change later without breaking activities so it's probably
 fine.

 I think we should use label_maxlen in Palette to make clear what it refers
 to. r+ with that change.
