Comment(by Phil):

 The attached script purges the extraneous preview images from the system.

 Note that it imports sugar.datastore, which means that it must be run in a
 live Sugar session to work properly.

 It is also available in the Git repository at
 http://dev.laptop.org/git/users/phil/support-scripts with the same name
 (purge-previews).
