 If there is a file in /instance, then an activity is momentarily not
 active (switched to home view, for example), then made active by returning
 to the activity, the file might be gone.

 Not sure why this would happen, nor why it is not consistent, but it is
 repeatable.  If you'd like sample code, let me know.
