Comment:

 I finally caught this in the act today -- it happens at resume time!

 At the moment we come out of our first suspend, we lose the first row of
 pixels, and the screen shifts to the right slightly. It's easy to
 reproduce:

  * with MP and latest Joyride, load the Terminal activity
  * type sudo su -, echo mem > /sys/power/state
  * hit return to wake up the machine, and watch the left edge of the
 display area closely.

 In fact, you don't need to be in the Terminal activity -- the same
 phenomenon happens on the Linux tty. This tells us that this isn't an X
 bug; either kernel or something lower. Reassigning to kernel, since
 that's the most likely candidate, and asking for retriage; it would be a
 shame to ship update.1 with this.
