 on my recently acquired G1G1 laptop, the alt-diacritic for 8, instead of
 being a combining caron (hachek) above (as marked on the keyboard), is a
 combining diaeresis below. meanwhile the p key, which is supposed to
 produce a combining diaeresis below, instead gives a combining macron
 above. a quick shortcut for a caron/hachek would be desirable, and in
 general it would be preferable if the diacritics marked on the keyboard
 were supported correctly.
