 Right now, I have no specific ideas, just a general sense of what could
 help.  And you're right; by trying to keep backwards-compatible with old
 open-source X applications that you're using, you have much less
 flexibility to design something from scratch.  I hadn't though about that.
 You've given me a lot of material to read, though (Thanks!), so hopefully
 I'll start to get some specific ideas.

 OK, I will.  Unfortunately, I can't get XoIRC to work, however (#5443), so
 I won't be able to get on IRC until I figure that out (this XO is my only
